Rita (Haliburton) Nute and husband Wesley will be celebrating their 27th anniversary on August 8th !!!!!!!!!!!!! Rita wrote "My husband, Wesley, and I will celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary on Aug. 8th. I wanted to share that joyous bit of news with others….and to update people on my family. Life gets truly interesting after 50…..priorities change, attitudes change, the body changes, life changes. It can be funny and it can be torture…..but although the seasons change . . . love remains the same…especially God’s love. "--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank You Rita !!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Earnest Lee Jr. Services for Robert E. Lee Jr. will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park. Wake will be 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the church. Robert was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Houston, the eldest of three children to Robert and Deltessa Lee. As a youngster, he joined Mt. Rose Baptist Church, where he was baptized. "Bobby" as he was fondly called, attended Burrus Elementary and Junior High School. He graduated from Philis Wheatly High School, where his musical talents were discovered and fostered. After graduation from Philis Wheatly, Robert entered Prairie View A&M College. His instrumental gifts continued to develop through his participation in the Prairie View Marching Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra. Along with the trombone, he also masters the saxophone. Because of his tremendous instrumental talent, the Legendary Count Basie Band extended an invitation to Robert to become one of their band members. Robert received a Bachelor of Arts in Music, which paved the path as he became one of the most well regarded and distinguished Band Directors in the city, state and nation. After graduation from Prairie View, Robert's teaching career as a Band Director began in Yokem, Texas, under the mentorship of Dr. "Pops" Sander, his high school principal. As he continued the pursuit of his education, each summer he returned to Prairie View where he received a Master in Arts in Music. His leadership and marching band expertise were significant factors as he was recruited to become Head Director of Bands in the Waco Independent School District. Upon arrival to the Waco community, he united with the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Robert was well respected because of service to his fellowman, community and profession. He is survived by his wife, Phae Lee; son, Robert E. Lee III; daughter, Raquel Lee; step-daughter, Tamara Weaver; four grandchildren; one sister; one brother; and a host of other relatives and friends. | Cleoda Bables Cleoda Bables of Waco, passed away Jan. 23, 2009, at Scott & White Continuing Care Hospital in Temple. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at St. Luke A.M.E. Church. A memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29, at St. Luke A.M.E. Church. Visitation will begin Thursday, Jan. 29, at Dorsey-Keatts Funeral Home and 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services Friday, at the church. Cleoda was born Jan. 19, 1936, in Hubbard, the first born of Earlie and Maurine Brackens Bables. His formative years were spent in "Hubbard City," the hometown he was always proud to acknowledge. He obtained his Bachelor's, Master's and Counseling Certification from Paul Quinn College and Prairie View A&M University, respectively. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Cleoda enjoyed a 30 year teaching and coaching career in the Rosebud, LaVega and Waco Independent School Districts, during which he worked as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. Upon retirement as Coordinator of Personnel in Waco ISD, he served as a Mentor of Teacher's Alternative Certification for Region 12 and McLennan Community College. Cleoda was a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church, where he served as a trustee and usher for many years. His civic affiliations and volunteer activities were widespread and varied, including Waco ISD Foundation, Board of Trustee of McLennan Community College and Providence Hospital, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., CenTex Paul Quinn Alumni and many many others. Preceding Cleoda in death were his parents; and two brothers, Frank Jr. and Milton Raymond "Stacy." He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Audrey; daughters, Stacie Bables and Shauna Tyus and husband, Dennis; three grandchildren, Julia, Brooke and Justin Tyus; one brother, Edward Bables; a dear brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; several aunts, an uncle, nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, friends and former students.
